Emma is an actress, playwright and musician residing in the Pacific Northwest. She has a BFA in Acting and Original Works from Cornish College of the Arts and has also studied abroad at LAMDA with a focus on Classical Acting. 

Her short sci-fi play, “Acatalepsy”, was produced as part of Cornish’s Spring New Works Festival in 2024. 

Emma was a company member of the Original Practice Shakespeare Festival in Portland, OR from 2021-2025 and has also worked with the Seattle Historical Theater Project, Portland Actors Ensemble, Magenta Theatre and The Broken Planetarium. 

Recent credits include The Fool in King Lear, Blackbird in I Am Frankenstein, Captain/Officer/Musician in Twelfth Night and Solange in The Maids.

As a cellist, Emma has performed in the Marrowstone Music Festival, Kairos Lyceum Chamber Music Festival and the Southwest Washington Symphony.

Artist Statement

As both a creator and a performer, I find an intangible beauty in shaping a world onstage and magic in bringing it to vivid life. The power of stories is inescapable and as an artist I seek to explore the many facets of how stories can be told, challenging my creativity and stretching myself to look at the world from new perspectives. I hope to promote empathy and understanding for the stories and the people from backgrounds different from mine and also to make space for the stories of people like me; other mixed race artists who have found limited spaces for them on the stage. 

I intend to write work that tells our stories and allows others a window into both our realities and our fantasies, to create a space where we can connect and also have an escape. My work centers on my mixed Asian identity and draws heavily on the intersection between Eastern and Western cultures, through coming to terms with different facets of one’s identity and finding the beauty in it. I purposely seek out stories from individuals and marginalized groups that have been obscured by the dominant narrative in history with the intent of bringing them to light again.
